0.35 MSF of mall supply in Q1’14; 1.26 MSF mall space deferred: C&W

Track2Realty: The total fresh mall supply by the end of 2014 is projected to be approximately 14 million square feet (msf) approx. in the top eight cities of India, of which 13.6 msf is still under construction, says a report by Cushman & Wakefield. This is nearly 200% more than the supply received in 2013 which was recorded at almost 4.6 msf. Of the total expected mall supply for the year of 2014 approximately 60% or 8.2 msf of fresh mall supply is expected to be received by National Capital Region (NCR) followed by Bengaluru at 2.86 msf.

Track2Realty: NCR retail real estate market remained largely stable as per the latest retail report from real estate consultancy Cushman & Wakefield. A few locations in both main street as well as malls saw some appreciation in rental values. Connaught Place (Inner Circle) recorded an increase of 12% while prime malls across Delhi NCR saw a positively rising curve following robust demand for the same.

Approximately 83% drop in prime retail space supply in 2012

Track2Realty: Despite an 83% drop in supply of organised retail space across key cities in the country, 2012 continued to witness an increase in transaction activity and retailer expansion. According to the findings of CBRE’s latest report “Indian Retail Market View H2, 2012”, approximately 2.5 million sq.ft. of fresh retail space entered the market in 2012, mainly concentrated in Bangalore, Kolkata and Pune, as against over 15 million sq.ft. in 2011.

Report says 50,000 hotel rooms expected in top six metro cities in next five years

Track2Realty: The top six cities of India are expected to see a total of 50,000 new hotel rooms across categories in the next 5- 6 years. This is in response to the steady growth the hospitality sector has recorded over the last few years. 2012 alone is expected to see 14,800 fresh keys by the end of the year. Out of the total expected supply for 2012, 2000 new hotel rooms have already entered the market. These are the findings of a report by Cushman & Wakefield (C&W)and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).
